Find the model and system in Settings
Open Settings on the Fire TV itself, not the menu of the television the Stick is connected to. Amazon calls the section “My Fire TV” or “Device & Software”, depending on the interface. Under “About”, you can find device and software details. Labels may vary by model and language. Amazon describes this settings area in its help.
Note the full model name, generation or model year, and the displayed system version. If the name is incomplete, check the packaging or device documentation. The purchase year alone is not enough: a Stick bought in 2026 may belong to an older model generation.
For a television with Fire TV built in, the TV model matters. For an external Stick, it is the Stick, even if both devices display the same brand name.
These similarly named models use different systems
These examples show why the suffix in the name matters. This is not a complete app compatibility list.
| Model | Generation / year | Operating system according to Amazon |
|---|---|---|
| Fire TV Stick 4K Plus | 2025 | Fire OS 8 |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Select | 2025 | Vega OS 1.1 |
| Fire TV Stick HD | 2026 | Vega OS 1.1 |
| Fire TV Stick 4K | 3rd generation, 2026 | Vega OS 2.0 |

What Fire OS and Vega OS mean for your apps
Fire OS is based on Android. Even so, an Android app is not automatically suitable for every Fire TV: Amazon uses its own services, and controls need to work with the remote. Vega OS is a different platform. A Fire OS APK is therefore not an installation route for Vega OS.
What matters is the specific app listing: is the app offered for your device and Amazon account? Downloading it on another Stick or an Android phone does not answer that question. You do not need to enable developer options or reset the device to check.
Use TELOS on a compatible Fire TV
TELOS is available for Fire TV. Our device page lists supported systems and the official installation route. Compare those details with your device; availability for Fire OS does not promise availability for Vega OS.
If you already have a Stick, start by checking its compatibility before buying other hardware. For a new Stick, see the comparison of 4K Select and 4K Plus (in German). Choose a player based on your access and how you use it, not only on the model name.
After installation, check the source and device separately
If the official store allows installation, first check that the app starts and responds to the remote. Set up your TV access only afterwards. This helps you tell whether an issue starts with device support or with retrieving your source. The TELOS getting-started guide takes you from access details to the first channel.
Three tasks are enough for a basic function check: open a familiar channel, return to the overview and find the same channel again. If the channel list is empty, check the access type and the details from your provider. If a playing stream stutters, use the buffering troubleshooting sequence. Successful installation alone says nothing about your provider access or the Wi-Fi connection behind the TV.
If you are switching from another player, keep the previous setup available for now. A licence, favourites or settings from another app are not transferred automatically. The switching guide provides a checklist for the source, device route and everyday use. If your access permits only one stream, stop playback on the previous device before testing on Fire TV.
No matching app listing: what to do next
If the app does not appear even though the system matches, check the exact app name and publisher. The guide to searching the app store (in German) distinguishes missing search results, unavailable offers and failed downloads.
For a support question, the model, system version, app name and message are enough. You do not need to share your playlist or password. This lets you ask about device support without revealing access details.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I see whether my Stick uses Fire OS or Vega OS?
On the Fire TV, open Settings and choose My Fire TV or Device & Software. Under About, note the model and software version, then compare the full model with Amazon’s device overview.
Do all new Fire TV Sticks use Vega OS?
Do not infer the system from the purchase date. Different product lines and generations use different systems. The full model name of your device is what matters.
Can I install a Fire OS APK on Vega OS?
A Fire OS APK is not an installation route for Vega OS. You need an app version offered for the relevant platform and your device.
Do I need to replace a Stick that works?
A new model is not an end in itself. If the apps and features you need work on your current device, first identify the specific improvement a change would bring.
